Loved the story (especially how he wrote into the misdirection at the beginning, not giving anything away). I think when you have five people all on wireless, the rest of the story writes itself.
I did NOT like his last line though. Normally I do with Steve.
I hope you continue to post examples of great storytelling (only it might be more helpful to us in lower markets if they're local news...with much more limited resources (our station does not have ONE wireless mic for us to use, not even a lavalier.
I'll post more examples when I run into some good ones.
As for equipment, this industry did quite well without wireless technology or lavs for decades. If you've got a great story, you can work with what you've got and still make it sing.
Hey Grape, I teared at the end. That was a great story! Here is what I recently did along the same lines, just not the same greatness, or is it grapeness? (I also cried at the end of my own story).

Yes, and really anything Steve Hartman does is memorable..
