Yes, there is justice in the world of broadcasting...

And in a related story, Anthony Weiner can stop making his resume tape.

Someone who works in broadcasting just lost their job and you're happy about it? What kind of message are you sending?

I get that you're upset a non-communications major is working in the Comm field- sorta like when Howard Cosell blasted ex-jocks for getting sports broadcasting jobs. But the industry has changed- the canceling of this show may have cost some producers and other employees their jobs as well.

You cannot be happy for that.

Yeah, I can. Because it proved that Americans don't want to watch a sleazeball who cheated on his wife with hookers deliver the news, and thus will hopefully prevent other networks from hiring people like Anthony Weiner to host a show. Spitzer was only hired because someone obviously thought he had some tabloid appeal. They kinda forgot that half of viewers are women.

And as for a non-communications major getting a job, uh, I happen to be one of them. My college, the University of Connecticut, did not offer broadcasting courses when I attended.

A degree doesn't make you smart. The smartest weathercaster I ever knew never went to college. One of the best producers I ever hired only had a high school diploma. On the other side of the coin, one of the worst reporters I ever knew went to a very prestigious university. If you're smart, you're smart, and if you're dumb, you're dumb, and no degree or lack of one will change that.

Meanwhile, thank you for having the guts to sign your comment. I wish you the best, especially since you have a vowel at the end of your name.

Meanwhile, my champagne is sufficiently chilled and the celebration continues. Cent' Anni!

Well, congratulations on proving nothing in your argument. Spitzer, like the rest of us, have made mistakes in their lives. He certainly made an enormous one by betraying the public trust with his affair. That does not mean he does not have the right to earn a living. If he chooses to work in communications, so be it.

By the way, I'm new to your site- but I wonder if you would have the same feelings toward Rush Limbaugh if he got caught with drugs again and got canned. Would you toast to his demise too? Or do you slant toward the right, which would make your hatred toward Spitzer make sense.

And he wasn't "delivering the news" either. Brian Williams "delivers the news" Shows like Spitzer's are hour long commentaries on the day's top stories- not newscasts. So is Olbermann's, Maddow's, O'Reilly's and just about anything on FOX. There's an enormous difference there- and you of all people should know it.

The problem with this show wasn't Spitzer, it lies with CNN. The 8 PM time slot has turned into a graveyard for Campbell Brown, Paula Zahn now Spitzer.

By the way- when Spitzer got canned, did you think a few others lost their jobs? Did CNN get rid of anyone else? You going to sip some of your champagne to their job loss too?

For those of us, like me, who have been begging for a full-time job in this economy, it's a pretty gloomy outlook right now.

I pity anyone who takes delight in the loss of a job-- especially in the broadcasting field that I so deeply care about.

Canio, you answered your own question. Spitzer betrayed the public trust. If he did so as a politician, why would viewers trust him as a host? His hiring only diminishes the low opinion the viewers already have of the media. The public already doesn't trust us, and then a network hires someone who can't even be trusted by his wife.

I wouldn't want Republican Mark Sanford to get a network job either. Democrats certainly haven't cornered the market on sleaze. There are plenty of GOP stories about men behaving badly. I will never tell anyone where my political beliefs lie. But being from the NYC area, I have flaming liberal friends and buddies to the right of Dick Cheney.

I think Limbaugh owns his show, so he couldn't be canned. But I have no use for him either. To be holier than thou and then be revealed to be a drug user crosses the line. And when he went off on Michael J. Fox, that really crossed the line. If you read the older posts on my blog you'll see I have zero tolerance for drug use, anchors with DUI's, etc.

I applaud Spitzer's firing because it might be a wake up call... that managers need to hire credible people who deserve the jobs,, like yourself. People that the public can trust. It seemed like Spitzer was being rewarded for bad behavior. I seriously doubt anyone can blame a producer or any behind the scenes staffer for Spitzer's low ratings.

And just so you won't think I'm a monster, why don't you send me your resume tape for a critique? No charge. Maybe I can help you.

Finally, I hope you'll note the quote that sits in the upper right hand corner of this blog. It speaks volumes.

You said it. This is exactly why I was happy to see they canceled this program...
