Great story

Here's a beautifully told story by one of my clients. For those who insist packages longer than 1:30 don't hold viewers interest, I challenge you to look away from this seven minute piece.

Very well done. I think the music background does work for this. But I'm hearing from more and more people who would say there was plenty of emotion pouring out without needing the soft music. Your thoughts on using music in news?

Soft, understated music works in pieces like these, especially in opens when you have little nat sound and things like photos.

It's often best to put it in last after you've edited the piece, to see if it "feels" right. If not, take it out.

Music is also a good element to use in features.

FYI... anytime you use music, ask management if the station has paid for music rights... otherwise you can find yourself in trouble with copyright violation.

Fantastic story! Literally gave me chills. I was going to ask the same thing Grape, about the music. I used to automatically think someone was trying to prop up a weak story when they put in music, but this was anything but a weak story!

Music never "props up" a story, it adds to it.

You just need to make sure it works.
